IT security | network access control (NAC)
How do you give controlled network access to a guest? How do you secure a network port in an exposed area like the boardroom? How do you provide wireless LAN connectivity to both guest and internal users?
Authentication at the network port level provides greater security within internal enterprise zones, for example in boardrooms, where there may be frequent guests. NAC enables you to provide guests access in a limited way. NAC can also be used for wireless network authentication to gain access to LAN resources.
Coupled with an existing user directory, NAC can be deployed in a phased approach: certain public areas first, then later for every enterprise port. NCI can assist in choosing the right product to fit within your existing network architecture, with ease of management, and to achieve the level of granularity you require.
NCI may be able to improve your network access control by using products you may already have deployed. For example, newer managed switches today can be configured to provide NAC using 802.1x protocol with a Remote Authentication Dial in User Service (RADIUS) back end.
NAC options include:
Enterasys: |
Enterasys NAC delivers a network access control solution that performs authentication, vulnerability assessment and assisted remediation of end systems for proactive prevention of security threats. |
Nortel Networks: |
The Nortel Secure Network Access Switch (SNAS) acts as a centralized controller that delivers unified access policy and admission control (user/device authentication and posture assessment) for wired, wireless, and mobile users/devices. |
